Software NZ Homepage Historical Overview | Purpose | Vision | Strategic Objectives Software New Zealand is New Zealand’s national software association with affiliations to and relationships with regional clusters and other ICT sector groups, organizations and associations. We also have cooperative relationships with NZ government and other country agencies responsible for software sector growth, development and investment.
The New Zealand Software Exporter’s Association (NZSEA) was founded in 1989 as a Joint Action Group (JAG) between the Information Technology Association of New Zealand (ITANZ) and Trade New Zealand (now known as New Zealand Trade & Enterprise). The software sector was recognized as having the potential to become a key contributor to the growth of New Zealand’s economy. Today it is in fact the fastest growing sector.
The NZSEA later became known as the New Zealand Software Association Inc. (NZSA) but retains its export focus. The new name recognized the fact that out of competitive and economic necessity many software companies may be exporting now whilst others aspire to entering export markets at some stage in the future. The new name was more inclusive of current and future exporters. The New Zealand Software Association Incorporated continues to evolve and become even more inclusive and more nationally focused and will now be known as Software New Zealand. Software New Zealand is committed to helping our members acquire, grow and hone the essential industry knowledge, business management, sales and marketing skills required to enter and grow profitable export markets. ‘To help New Zealand software companies succeed' To add value for our members, our energies and resources will focus on the delivery of initiatives in the following areas, the acronym for which is ACCESS. Advocacy Goal: To lobby on behalf of NZSA members on issues that affect members and the software industry at large - one voice. This includes collaboration with other ICT organizations on ‘common good’ issues. Communications, Information and Marketing Goal: To disseminate information that helps members keep up with the latest industry trends, events, news and business developments and develop resources that raise the collective profile of members and promotes the strengths of New Zealand’s ICT industry. Collaboration & Networking Goal: To facilitate networking opportunities and events on a national basis. These should, where possible, promote inter-organizational and cluster collaboration for the purpose of solving common problems, reducing duplicated effort, promoting export partnering and ultimately — deal flow. Education Goal: To provide educational opportunities which help entrepreneurs/founders to acquire the business, sales and marketing skills required to take their company to the next stage of development. ServiceS for Members Goal: To help members reduce business costs through cooperative buying of products/services (reduced rates on toll calls) and to benchmark against industry best practice (standard software legal agreements, ICT remuneration survey). |
